This is a feature article I wrote for Difference Makers, a St. Louis high school sports magazine.
St. Joseph’s Academy senior Maggie Baumann’s résumé speaks for itself. In 2008 she was selected to the All-State, All-Metro, and All-Conference 1st teams. That same year, she led the SJA Angels to their first state title game since 2003 and was recognized as a Saint Louis Soccer Hall of Fame Future Star honoree. Her club team, Saint Louis Scott Gallagher Soccer Club (formerly Busch Soccer Club), will begin the defense of its title for the fourth year in a row this summer.
Having committed to Saint Louis University as a junior, it would be easy for Baumann to cruise through her senior season and just focus on college. However, all of her accomplishments have only motivated her to work harder. “There is always pressure [on me] to be as successful as possible,” Baumann said. “I would not want to disappoint my peers, my parents, or myself by not doing the best that I can. I want to keep up the hard work and hopefully stay at the top of my game for the rest of my soccer career.”
